UPDATE

Hi everybody!!

I haven't been posting anything because i got sick. I'm still sick, but now i'm able to continue :-D

By now i've already studied both hiragana and katakana and i'm maintaining that knowledge reviewing through flashcards every single day.
I'm starting with Kanji. My plans are learning kanji at the same time i learn the language, because there are lots of kanji to memorize.

There are several books about kanji, but i selected the ones i believe are best suitable for me.

The first book i read, was more to get an insight of where did the chinese characters come from. The second book is the book that i'm really studying the Kanji. And the beauty of it is that there is a website where you can study online the kanji (online flashcards), and you can interact with others that are also studying through this book.

Hiragana Books

Know i know how to read hiragana. What's the best way to stick it into your mind forever? To use it. Because i still don't know Kanji, the only books i can read are children books (only have hiragana).

I still don't know how to translate (i need the dictionary :-p) but that's not my concern yet. Only to practice reading. Still, later i'll be posting a translation of these books.

Here are children books to practice:

To memorize Hiragana

To learn hiragana, you basically have to memorize and then start reading children books because they are written solely in hiragana.

Sometime ago i memorized all the hiragana, but in the meantime i forgot almost everything. But using the book "Remembering the kana: The hiragana" from James W. Heisig it's not only easier to memorize, it's also faster, because it uses mnemonics.
During this post, in just 1 day, i already memorized effectively 2/3 of the hiragana. And decided to leave the rest for the next day so that it will be really stucked on my memory and not confusing anything. I also tested by now , all the hiragana i studied, using anki. Tomorrow i'll do the same.

I'm going to leave you a download link to this book, but i hope you buy it, because it's really cheap (about $15 US/15€) and it really works. The second part of this book is katakana

3rd Deck

Now i'm learning hiragana. I use a very good book (which i'm going to show you later) and then to test if i really memorized them, use anki software to produce flashcards.
Don't you ever forget to use anki everyday. :-p

1st deck

After installing the Anki software, i created an account online on the website.
I just created my first deck of flashcards and from now on i'll be sharing my online decks.
You need this key: 2902cd1da28c9d31
and access this link to learn how to syncronize: http://ichi2.net/anki/wiki/DeckProperties#Synchronization

The deck i created comes from the tv course "Yan and the japanese people 1" which comes with 3 volumes of a textbook with exercises about the tv show. This course dates back to 1984, still is awesome (except for the hairdos and clothes of the time :-p). In time i'll be allowing all of you to follow this course also.

What is needed before studying

First of all, i need materials before i start studying.Things needed:

1- Flashcards for studying and remembering. In the old days flashcards were printed cards with vocabulary. The advantages of these are that you can take it everywhere. On the bus, waiting for a ride, etc. Nowadays there are programs that have the same function as flashcards, you can input unlimited amount of vocabulary. But until recently you could not take them with you all the time. But there is a program that quizzes you and you can download the mobile function. Using printed flashcards or computer flashcards is your choice, and you can use them both if you like. Either way is fine. But don't expect to have already made flashcards on the internet, because what's really best for you is to use a learning system and use flashcards with the vocabulary you create during that process. My favorite flashcard program is Anki (taken from the website AJATT i already posted). Not only you can have access to a mobile version, is also based on a spaced learning repetition. Download: http://ichi2.net/anki/download/index.html

Awesome sites and blogs

I'll be posting here interesting websites and blogs about japan and the japanese language.
Until now the best ones are:

http://nihongo-dekimasu.blogspot.com/

http://www.alljapaneseallthetime.com/

http://www.nippobrasil.com.br

Whenever i find a good one, i'll be posting more.

Main Objectives

Hi!

For many years that i'm in contact with at least part of the japanese culture, through movies (specially horror ones :-p ), videogames, manga, anime, and ocasionally music and news. For all this time, i've wanted to learn the japanese language, and although i have some vocabulary (mainly due to anime ) i'm only able to ask for directions in case i got lost in some place. I know the japanese sounds e can read some kana. But that leads me nowhere. So now i've decided to learn japanese on my own and, to make sure i'm commited to the end, i'm making this blog so that i feel compelled to continue. This also provides the oportunity to others who might follow this blog, to learn some stuff and get access to lots of material.
Through out my learning process i'll be posting everything that i do, with materials that i use. Hopefully i'll be learning something, and if not, you'll be learning what not to do :-P

Good Luck Everybody!!!
